December is always a busy month. It’s like the year is saying, “Wait, wait! There’s more!!!”
Ako Para Sa Bata 2015 in Cebu
Early in 2015, Dr. Emma Llanto of the Child Protection Network invited Mulat Pinoy-Kabataan News Network to provide social media coverage of the convention. She also asked me to speak about the positive impact of social media on the youth.
The conference was held in Cebu, at the Marco Polo Hotel. The food was nice, and so was the venue. Free wifi everywhere!
It was the first time the Ako Para Sa Bata conference was held outside Manila, and they had a record 1,000 participants in attendance, from all over the Philippines!
The APSB conferences are always interesting and incredibly informative, but this year was especially so. The theme was the Cyberprotection of Children, and the different speakers presented all sorts of data on trafficking, online child abuse, cyberbullying, parenting in the digital age, and many more.
Here’s something I wrote about the conference. Read more about it on the MP-KNN website.
SWTFA: Megamall IMAX
December kicked off with a work trip, but really, the month was all about Star Wars.
Oneal and I spent months working on our new costumes (Rey for me, X-wing fighter pilot for him). We unveiled my costume at SM Mall of Asia, where a full-sized replica of a Blue Squadron X-wing fighter was on display. (I wrote about the costume build here.)
But the big day was December 15, the gala screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Of course, as with all Big and Important Events, the screening was preceded by a series of unfortunate events. There was a typhoon. Traffic was horrendous. And I forgot Oneal’s underarmor at home.
Still, we trooped! I got interviewed on TV (A LOT).

We had a cool group photo.

Oh, and…

WE GOT TO SEE STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS!!!
(It was pretty epic.)
SWTFA: Alabang, Greenhills, Greenbelt, Gateway
Of course we didn’t just see the movie once. December 19 was probably our busiest day.
We started with an appearance at Commercenter Alabang, where Oneal’s high school class organized block screenings for their fundraising.
Then we drove to Greenhills, because we had tickets to catch the Filbar’s screening at Promenade, with my family!
Our last stop was Greenbelt, where my other geek friends organized their own fundraising screening.

All the malls wanted us to appear at their screenings and events. For Gateway Mall, we agreed to troop on December 20. In exchange, they let us watch the movie in the Globe Platinum Theater for free!
Geek Christmas
So we got a lot of Star Wars gifts this year. 😛
Christmas parties galore
What’s Christmas without a bajillion gatherings? Friends and family, coming together over the holidays, make for a great end to another year.
