Vanity in the pandemic: Make up behind the mask

Show of hands: How many of you still wear make-up when you go out, even if you’re going to be covered up in a mask and face shield anyway?

I know nobody’s going to see me, but I don’t care. When I go out, I still want to look pretty. Maybe I’m just walking to Decathlon to pick up an order. I could be walking to the nearby mall to buy meds and a few groceries that can’t wait. Maybe I need to get cash at the ATM. Either way, I’ll still fix up my eyebrows, swipe on some cheek tint and apply a little lip balm. If I’m feeling extra, I’ll even put on a little highlighter and mascara!

Happy New Year!

Here’s what I’ve been using lately:

Cheek tint: Skin Genie Lip and Cheek Stain Alive

I’m currently using Sunset Orange, but honestly I’ve loved every shade I’ve tried!

I used to be so afraid of using cheek tint. I was worried about using too much, of looking like I had bright red paint on my face. But eventually I learned to sweep the roller tube across my cheek, blend, then add gradually until I achieve the blush I want. Sometimes, this is all I have on my face!

Blush: Canmake Cream Cheek

I got this from Caroline, who didn’t like it very much. It was exactly the shade of blush I was looking for at the time, and I was so happy with this!

Sometimes I use this instead of lip and cheek tint. Sometimes I sweep it across my eyelids.

Eyebrow pencil: Maybelline Fashion Brow 3D Cream Pencil with Brush

I don’t have much of a problem with my eyebrows, but it does help to fill them in a little. I don’t need anything fancy or complicated, so this basic brow pencil does just fine.

Highlighter: Revlon Colorstay Endless Glow

I love highlighter! I once had a liquid one that I would mix with my moisturizer or liquid foundation, for a nice, even glow all over my face.

In the photo above, I’m using Revlon liquid highlighter. I love how just a little bit does so much to give me a nice glow.

Mascara: Maybelline Lash Sensational Big Eyes Bloom Mascara

I don’t often bother with mascara. My favorite is actually Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara but it’s often out of stock!

Eyeshadow: Novo Cosmetics Two Tone Eyeshadow Stick in Color: #4 Light Gold / Bronze Gold

When I do bother with eyeshadow, I like using this one. I just sweep it across my lids and blend a little, and I’m done! This is what I’m wearing in the photo above.

Lipstick: Revlon Balm Stain

Ever since I discovered this, I have hoarded it! I use it until the stick is completely empty. I love this! I think I’ve tried three different shades, and I love them all. I’ve recommended them to friends too.

Contour stick: Sparkle Cosmetiks Creamy Contouring Stick

I don’t contour much these days, but sometimes when I’m hosting an event, I like to use a little bit of this down the sides of my nose. I prefer using this cream stick instead of powder, as I just draw a line and blend it in, so it’s hard to get it wrong!

Foundation: Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation in B2

Just like the contour stick, I only use this when I have an event to host or attend. I just dab it in spots around my face, and blend.

Attended a wedding via Zoom last December

Powder: Ellana Mineral Cosmetics Stay Matte Poreless Powder

When I feel like my face is shiny, I just sprinkle this around my face. It feels so light, like I’m wearing nothing at all!
