Bongga in Bangkok: Exploring SeaLife Bangkok Ocean World

Lucas loves animals. Giraffes are his favorite, but it seems like he has a soft spot for sea creatures.

When we went to Bangkok, I thought it would be a nice treat to take him to SeaLife Bangkok Ocean World at Siam Paragon.

Definitely it’s smaller than Manila Ocean Park, but much better maintained and designed. The layout is pretty good. The enclosures are much nicer, and the animals look healthy.

I’m glad I got passes on Klook! Once I showed the voucher to the information counter, we were directed straight to the entrance, where the staff just scanned the bar codes on my phone. It really was convenient.

All the hours Lucas spent watching Octonauts were worth it. Lucas explained to me where the creatures lived, what they ate, and more. We saw seahorses and sharks, urchins and starfish, eel and moray, and a pair of sea otters snuggling together.

Otter-ly adorable!

We must have seen everything three or four times. I only managed to convince Lucas to exit because I was starving, and he wanted to check out the shop.

We were able to watch the staff feeding some of the animals. We asked if we could feed or pet them, but the staff politely declined.

We also caught the scheduled feeding of the sharks! But Lucas got scared that the sharks would bite the divers, so he didn’t want to watch.

As for me, I was especially thrilled to see the penguins. When we saw them, they were standing in a row, and mostly still, so I thought they were statues! Then they started jumping into the water, and walking around. I was so happy to see them that I said, near tears, “It’s just like Happy Feet!” The guy standing nearby laughed out loud. I’m not sure where he was from, but he was there with his family. When Lucas touched the glass, he gave a start. “It’s so cold!” he told me. The guy came closer to Lucas and explained that the enclosure needs to be cold, because that’s what these penguins are used to.

This place is definitely worth a visit if you have kids, and especially if they love animals. Lucas was so happy.
