Bongga in Bangkok: Dinner cruise on Chao Phraya River

Since Oneal was working most of the time that we were in Bangkok, he didn’t really get to see much of the city. The only touristy thing he got to do was the dinner cruise that my friend Fiona booked, and I think it was pretty awesome!

For 990 baht per adult (690 baht for children aged 4 to 10 years, with height not over 110 cm), you get to ride a yacht for three hours, and enjoy a buffet dinner with live music too. The food includes Thai and international cuisine, and there’s also beer.

There are many companies offering these dinner cruises, but Fiona booked us with Alangka Cruise. We were at the IconSiam pier by 6:45pm, and with a large crowd we boarded the brightly lit boat.

We were all so excited for this, but Lucas was not very happy. He had been thrilled to see and board the boat, and he marveled at the lights illuminating the buildings along the river. He was fine as the boat drifted away from the dock. But when he saw that we were going under a bridge, he panicked and started crying. He was scared that we would crash into the bridge, and scared by the sound amplified as we moved under it. I had to hold him tight and calm him down. I reminded Lucas that we had been on the same river just a few days before, but on smaller boats and in the daytime. Eventually he agreed to sit down, and we were able to eat.

We pointed out to Oneal the places had visited, and others that we wished we could have seen. It was fascinating to see how different, how luminescent, how blinding were these buildings at night, as we zoomed past them on our boat.

I didn’t really get to listen to the music, as I was busy trying to get Lucas to calm down. But the food was good!
