My Favorite Boy: Giraffe Gaming

Oneal and I have always loved video games in various forms. I play puzzle games and word games on my mobile phone, and he likes zombie games.

When we were newlyweds, we would stay up until sunrise, playing LEGO Harry Potter and LEGO Star Wars.

So it’s no surprise that Lucas loves video games too, so much that he has a whole YouTube channel dedicated to it. It helps that, in addition to our Xbox, we inherited consoles and games from my best friend Dante, so we have a variety of games to play on a variety of consoles–including Steam on our respective desktop PCs!

Lucas keeps going back to various Plants vs Zombies games, from Battle for Neighborville to Garden Warfare. Sometimes he likes to try my puzzle games, or the zombie games that Oneal likes. But nothing has held our attention as well as the various LEGO games.

For a while we were obsessed with completing LEGO Harry Potter. Oneal and I were playing LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 years ago, on the Playstation, and we never finished it. Lucas had seen the movies a year or so ago, and he was quite amused by the games. Together we finished all the levels, and we’re still obsessed with getting 100% on the game, and on LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 too!

Because we’re all crazy about Star Wars, we’ve been playing different LEGO Star Wars games. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, for instance:

There’s also LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, which is not easy!!!

And more recently, we’ve started playing LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. Unlike the other franchises, Lucas hasn’t seen the Pirates movies; we watched the first one, and he got scared, so we didn’t finish it. So now, he keeps asking me about this or that character, and why this or that happens. I told him, you have to watch the movies!!!

The funny thing about all this is that, as a minor, Lucas can’t livestream on YouTube. So when I play with him, he asks if I’m willing to livestream with him. So now I am a fixture on my son’s YouTube channel, sigh.

Despite our love for LEGO video games, there are a few that we can’t seem to get into. LEGO Batman and LEGO Indiana Jones weren’t very interesting for him. We also tried LEGO Marvel Super-Heroes, but some levels seemed so difficult that they weren’t fun to play anymore.

Of course, we have played games other than LEGO. There was a time we were obsessed with Lovers in a Dangerous Space-Time on the Switch.

We played it so much that, on separate occasions, we recruited Dante and my brother to play, so we could do four players and attempt to defeat the final level. Alas, we failed, but it was all sorts of entertaining and stressful!

What video games do you play with your kid/s?
