One of my favorite things about traveling is wandering around, with no plans about where our feet take us. “Let’s see what’s there,” I always say.
The day before we left Gubat, Sorsogon, we decided to wander around with our friend TJ. We wanted to check out the Gubat Heritage Center, and Museo de San Antonio.

Museo de San Antonio is a small museum attached the the San Antonio Church. It’s not much more than a large room with various church things displayed here and there, but we saw some interesting things.
It was closed, because it was a holiday, but the church staff very kindly opened it up for us.
Our friend TJ had been explaining that the town’s name, Gubat, did not mean “jungle” as it did in Tagalog. Instead, it actually came from “Ginubatan”, or a place over which battles had been fought. Apparently Gubat had been the target of many attacks by local Moro tribes, centuries ago. We were happy to see the official explanation in the museum.
Of course, we had to take a peek at the church too.

I always enjoy visiting churches and museums, and I’m really happy we got to see these in Gubat!
