When choosing our hotel for our Bangkok trip, we had a few requirements.

We had to take into consideration the fact that Oneal was working, and Lucas and I would be sightseeing. I suggested that the place be near the event venue, so he wouldn’t have to worry about traffic during his morning commute. I also said that the hotel cost should include breakfast, so that we wouldn’t have to worry about finding food so early in the day, and possibly derailing our schedules. A pool would be a nice plus too, so that if we didn’t feel like sightseeing, Lucas and I could just swim.

An interesting challenge was finding a hotel website that allowed us to indicate that the persons using the accommodations were two adults and one child. We wanted to specify this because we didn’t want to end up in two separate rooms. We also had to make sure the bed would fit all three of us!

I’m happy to say that Ibis Bangkok Riverside met all our requirements, and we spent a pretty good week there! Not much variety at the breakfast buffet, but there was bread, coffee, rice, ham, cheese, and cereal, and that was more than enough. The bathroom was quite small, enough only for a shower, a toilet and a sink, so there wasn’t much space for our toiletries, or hanging wet swimsuits. But there was complimentary water every day, the beds were comfy, and we had a great view of the river!

Even better, there was a free shuttle that could take us to the nearest train station, so that really helped. There was a 7-Eleven down the street, so it was easy to buy snacks or drinks on the way out or before heading back to the hotel. And it was just a 15-minute walk to IconSiam, where WordCamp Asia was held, so it was easy for Oneal to go to work every morning.
So yeah, I’d definitely recommend Ibis Bangkok Riverside to anybody visiting in Bangkok.
