The Adventures of Princess Sammy and Knight Sooka

Sometime during the pandemic, I told Lucas a story about a girl called Princess Sammy.

I honestly don’t remember most of the details. Sometimes I thought of a story, but I hadn’t thought the entire plot through, so I told the story over several nights. Sometimes I tried to keep it short but Lucas insisted on adding more and more.

It all started because he wanted a story about a princess and a knight, and it turned into an episodic saga with a troll, a magician, an enchanted prince, some pigs. Most of the time I tried to remember different fairy tales and nursery rhymes, and found a funny way of retelling the story.

This is one of my favorites.

Princess Sammy and the Trifecta of Miniature Hogs

Princess Sammy and Knight Sooka were in the village, and suddenly there arrived three pigs. “Greetings, Princess!” said one of them. “We are a Trifecta of Miniature Hogs! And we seek your counsel.”

Their names were Bob, Bob and Bob, and they had built their homes in the forest. But they could not agree on whose home was the best, sturdiest and strongest, so they decided to ask Princess Sammy for her opinion.

Princess Sammy and Knight Sooka hooked up a wagon to the horses, Chad and Steve, and went with the Trifecta of Miniature Hogs (Yes, I said that out loud every single chance I got) to the forest.

On the way to the forest, it started raining really hard! They drove the wagon towards the homes of the Trifecta of Miniature Hogs, in the hopes of getting dry and having some dinner. “Here, come into my home!” said Bob. Princess Sammy and Knight Sooka took the horses and went with Bob, Bob and Bob into the first home.

Bob’s home was built of twigs, with leaves and branches for a roof, and piled up wood for walls. The wind dripped through the roof, and the wind whistled through the walls.

The second Bob’s house was made of stone, and though the walls were not as rickety as the first house, still wind and water found a way in.

The third Bob had built his high up in the trees, like something out of the Ewok village.

As they were exiting Bob’s house, and preparing to go up to Bob’s house, they heard a sound. “Wolves!” whispered Bob. Hurriedly they climbed into the nifty contraption that Bob had designed, a sturdy platform, and the Trifecta of Miniature Hogs pulled on the ropes to bring them up. “We’ll be safe here.”

I wish I could remember the rest of the story, but I only know that Princess Sammy decided that each home had its merits, that each one could protect them from different dangers, and worked well in different places. In the end, she said maybe they could find a way to work together on a design that would make them all happy, and keep them safe from storms and wild animals alike.

The next day, Princess Sammy and Knight Sooka got in their wagon, and went back home with Chad and Steve.

The end!

It’s been a few years since Lucas last asked for a Princess Sammy story. I’m happy to say he makes up his own stories now, and I’m still working on getting him to actually write them down.
