My friend Aissa posted a picture of crunchy chicken wings, and I’d been craving them since. I just could not get the idea out of my head.
This is hilarious because I rarely ever order chicken wings when we eat out. It just seems like a waste of money, because it’s all breading and not much meat. But I have always known that food advertising works on me. Now I know pictures of friends’ cooking works on me too.
My air fryer is tiny, so I decided I would try cooking the chicken wings in the oven instead, I found a recipe and gave it a shot.

Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken wings – I chopped each piece into two: the lollipop side and the L-shaped side.
- Cayenne pepper or Spanish paprika
- Parsley
- Salt and pepper
- Melted butter
- Flour
Procedure
- Boil the chicken: I hate it when I fry chicken and it’s still bloody on the inside, so I always boil my chicken first, until there’s no more blood coming out.
- Remove chicken pieces from the broth. (You can save the broth and use it for soup or sauce; just store in the freezer.)
- Season with salt, pepper, cayenne or Spanish paprika, and parsley. Just use any herbs and spices you like. I put my chicken wings in plastic containers and shook them with all the seasoning to make sure they were well-coated. I also put them in the fridge for a few hours.
- When ready to bake, pre-heat oven.
- Coat the chicken wings in flour. I put flour in the plastic containers and shook them well.
- Pour melted butter into a metal pan and arrange chicken wings in a single layer.
- Bake to desired crunchiness.
I served this with a simple yogurt dip, and I am very happy to report that my family finished almost everything. Out of 1kg of chicken wings, only three small pieces were left! I’m counting this as a success.
