A Saturday with Garfield

In case you hadn’t noticed, we’re cat people. We’ve had many cats over the years, and we’ve done our best to take good care of them. Of course we love all the cat memes and videos we see online, and we adore shows and movies that feature cats prominently.

I haven’t seen a whole lot of Garfield, but I do remember reading the comic in newspapers when I was younger. I always enjoyed his sarcasm, no doubt because of my own feisty fluffball Botchok. I probably caught the cartoons a few times, but none of the movies that have been released before.

We’ve been lucky to get invited to many movie premieres over the years, and we were happy to get an invitation to The Garfield Movie in SM Megamall last week.

The timing was pretty funny. Before we got the invitation, we were in Power Plant Mall, because I had an appointment nearby. I needed a bite afterwards, and while I was eating, Lucas kept watching the trailer, which was playing on loop in the cinema area. “Can we watch it?” he kept asking. So really, when we got the invitation for the screening, he was the most thrilled of all of us!

We were hoping there would be lasagna, haha! But there was popcorn and soda, so that was pretty good.

It was really cute to see that some fans had brought their cats to the screening. I talked to one of the hoomans, and she said they would bring their cat with them whenever they went out, since she was a kitten, so she was quite used to being outside.

I can say with absolute certainty we can never do this with Hedwig. Even having strangers in the house makes him nervous.

One happy thing for Hedwig, though: at the screening, they gave us cat food!

I wasn’t sure if he’d like it, as he’s had dry food most of his life. But when I gave him one of the sauce packets, he gobbled it up pretty quickly!

Maybe he’ll give Garfield a run for his food, I mean, money.

As for #GarfieldMovie, it was a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I wasn’t familiar with Garfield’s backstory, so I had no attachments or expectations with this movie. I have to say, I really liked Odie though! If there’s going to be a sequel, I’d love to see Nermal.

Now showing in the Philippines! Thank you Columbia Pictures Philippines for the invitation.
